Low Calorie, Weight Loss Recipes

Blame it on digitally enhanced versions of already stick thin models. Weight loss recipes are a dime a dozen as everyone aims to emulate… yes, digitally enhanced models. These recipes spring from anywhere and everywhere! From the South Beach diet, the Mayo Clinic Diet to health books like Fit For Life. These usually advise you to starve yourself so I would rather recommend recipes that you can actually eat and which you will be more than happy to do so.

Nonetheless, what is a good salad weight loss recipe to remind you of your diet? This California Style Salad comes from The Ram Nut Diet™. As with a salad, you get all your ingredients and happily toss them into a salad bowl before mixing them up. You need the following ingredients: 4 cups of lettuce, 1 cut avocado, 2 tablespoons of sunflower seeds, 4 ounces of shredded chicken and. To ‘season’ your salad, you need 1 tablespoon olive oil and lemon juice. Heat your salad on low heat, pour in 4 egg whites, cook untill set and voila! It is so yummy, you can down this yourself though it is for two.

I love clam chowder soup so I shall share this fantastic New England Clam Chowder recipe. Use 2 teaspoons of margarine in place of oil to heat the pan. Add half cup of chopped onion, stir continuously till soft. Add half cup of potatoes, 3/4 cup of water and ¼ can of the liquid you get from canned baby clams to give your soup flavour. Boil for 8 to 10 minutes till potatoes soften. Reduce the heat and add ¼ can of clams, 1 cup of skim milk, a dash of salt and pepper. Not the best weight loss recipe with 219 calories and 6g fat, but hey, you are already consuming lesser calories for great clam chowder soup

This is a filling meal: Sweet Potato Casserole. Preheat oven at 175˚ C. Blend 3 cups of cooked sweet potatoes, 4 egg whites, 2 tablespoons of flour and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract. Add in ¼ cup of sugar substitute, ¼ teaspoon nutmeg and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract. Pour the puree into a casserole dish.
Next, the topping consists of 3 tablespoons of flour, 2 tablespoons of butter and 1/2 cup of brown sugar. You can add chopped pecans for a crunchy texture. Slather the topping over and bake for half an hour until golden brown and it smells good! (duh!). This gives you 10 servings at a measly 6g fat and 177calories

Ricotta Pumpkin Cheesecake is the simplest weight loss recipe you can find for a dessert. Simply throw the following into the blender to make a puree. Add 3/4-cup ricotta cheese, 2/3 cup of cottage cheese and 1 1/3 cups milk powder. Of course, get the skimmed versions or any brand which offers you the least fat. You also require 3/4 cup of egg substitute, ¼ cup of brown sugar, 1/2 cup pumpkin. 1 tablespoon lemon juice and 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract and cinnamon for flavour. Simultaneously, preheat your oven to 175˚ C . Pour into the prepared graham cracker crust. It has to be about the size of a dish to hold the filling. Bake for almost an hour until the mixture is no longer gooey. This is your dream dessert as it only has 160 calories and 1 g fat.. 12 g of much needed protein comes from the cheese. It serves 8 but with so little calories, who cares about sharing!

These suggested recipes are not like other strict weight loss recipes. Though the calorie level are higher than recipes advocated in most other diets, these are high in flavour and allows you to indulge in ‘normal’ everyday foods , so that you do not go cold turkey and lose heart in your diet.

The Weight Loss Plan: An Idiots Guide

A good weight loss plan is one that not only loses you weight but also helps you to keep it that way. Everyone knows that you either burn out more calories than you consume or you eat fewer calories than your daily calorie expenditure. Straightforward yes? I shall thus expound on the two-pronged approach of watching your diet and your exercise in this weight loss plan.

Your first step in your weight loss plan is that you pay attention to your meals. First: three square meals are a no go if you are not a construction worker. Instead the adage of six light meals is advised if you want to keep a trim figure. Eat till you are seventy percent full so that your digestive system will not be overloaded. You are not on a diet if you are going to eat till you burst on all six meals. For efficient digestion and thus a trim figure, your tummy needs a warm and ideal temperature and your digestive juices the right pH value. To prevent havoc on my digestion, I do not drink cold or soft drinks with my meals. This is because drinking such drinks lowers your internal temperature and changes the pH value of your gastric juices.

Lastly, you need to work that booty if you want to shed that weight. You could choose to hit the gym as building muscle mass not only cuts you a trim and lean figure, it burns your fat twenty-four hours of the day (hurray!). However, if the idea of gaining muscles irks you, then by all means, do aerobic activities instead. Go out for a walk after dinner to burn off the extra calories accumulated throughout the day. No discipline? Sign up for a class. Putting your money into a yoga or aerobics class is sure to send you scuttling out your exercise sessions if sheer will power to carry out your weight loss plan is not good enough

Do note, do not be fooled into thinking that sports bars are good for you if you do only light exercise less than daily. These are absolutely yummy but do not be naïve and think that by eating sports bars, its ‘sporty’ image will rub off on you. Athletes look so darn trim and lean because they work out, not because they seat on the couch chomping on sports bars loaded with sugar, so get off your bottom and thrash those bars. The same is said for sports drinks, these are packed with carbohydrates and sugar, all of which you, on a diet plan weight loss simply cannot afford to have.

No single weight loss plan will work all the time or work for everyone, Thus the reason of not stating a fixed one. How much weight one loses depends mostly on his or her motivation to control his diet and chose his or her foods wisely. Thus to achieve your more efficient weight loss you also have to consider your reasons for weight loss and this will help you to stick to your plan more rigorously.

Weight Loss Drinks: The Pros and Cons

You also wanted to start your diet but it gets too tedious with all the calories and label-scrutinising. Now it is late and you are contemplating an alternative diet… Yes, weight loss drinks or liquid meal replacements are the lazy man’s (or rather woman’s) shortcut to a slimmer silhouette. Do they work? I shall touch on the pros and cons of such weight loss drinks and you can make a better decision for yourself.

Some people swear by weight loss drinks for the time saved and convenience offered. Unlike simply adding water to your shake, conventional diets usually require one to tediously count calories of almost every food item that goes into their mouths (yikes!), hunt around for the lowest-fat foods stated in recipes. What’s worst? Actually preparing the darn meal! Thus meal replacements are great when you simply have no time to prepare their meal or even eat! Think of your skipped breakfast this morning. So instead of going on an empty stomach, just grab a diet shake. Furthermore, studies have shown that people who have breakfast had better weight control than those who do not.

So how effective are these? Weight loss drinks are a sure winner for those who absolutely have to keep to their calorie count. This is because for conventional diets, it is not possible to keep in check the calorie count of each ingredient. Who knows the exact calorie count of the papapya or kueh you just ate right? Secondly, meal replacements do have their success stories. Studies have shown that weight loss drinks can lose you as much weight as conventional diets. Moreover, unlike the latter, the weight loss is lasting when participants continued replacing one meal with a shake for a year (Journal of the American Dietetic Association).

When you have your shakes may also make all the difference. As a good hearty breakfast is advocated to jumpstart your day, this may be the meal you would like to spend your calorie allotment on. Why not, since having good food will definitely perk one up and you will need the energy to last you through the day. Dinner is a good time to have your weight loss drinks as your metabolic rate slows down on the evening as it prepares for rest. Furthermore, you will not lose much calories bumming around in front of the house television, will you?

However, one main concern about weight loss drinks is that it lacks fibre and the whole spectrum of nutrients that comes from eating a variety of foods and of course! Having the same shake limits you to the same types of foods used in the shakes. Secondly, as stated above, users maintained their weight loss when they continued substituting at least one regular meal with a shake, that makes sense. However, if a dieter were to be so disciplined as to keep to her shake, I am sure her weight loss is attributed to her resolve than her shake. Lastly, unlike a conventional diet, one also does not need to choose foods wisely and count calorie. Not very helpful for a long term weight loss

Nonetheless, I personally feel that taking weight loss drinks is fine when you take it once in a while or you use it to replace only one meal a day. Also, keep in mind that weight loss methods are not a one-size-fits-all and you have to tweak then to your own needs.

Nifty Tips to Supplement Your Weight Loss Diet Plan

Personally, I live to eat and I believe in having your cake and eat it as long as you eat all things in moderation. Secondly, I do not see the point of simply giving you a generic weight loss diet plan which maybe unsuitable for you. Rather, here are some diet tips to supplement your existing diet that you may need as you go through the day

For breakfast, my parents swear by only having fruits or juices until noon. This habit arose from the health book Fit for Life. Its weight loss diet plan dictates that when your body is free from heavy food stuffs in the morning, it can do its job of digesting more efficiently for the rest of the day. Studies have also shown that having lots of fibre in the morning helps one to eat less for the entire day. I guess this method works for them as they still maintain enviable figures despite behind in their mid fifties.

Secondly, there is no point in watching what you eat for your weight loss diet plan when you are guzzling down calorie in your drinks! Need a coffee to jumpstart your morning. Find out how much weight you have been putting on, indulging in your habit and that is sufficient to jolt you awake. The calories in Starbucks Café Latte fattens you up with 180 calories. A serving of Coke lends you about 150calories whilst a canned drink sets you back about 130calories, Substitute all other kinds of drinks to water and you cut down a substantial part of your calorie intake.

What if you absolutely will die without having junk food? Allow yourself a daily but small quota of junk so that you do not go cold turkey. This allows for desserts, but it entails sticking to low fat alternatives for your main meal: a soupy dish over a deep-fried ones. It will also help to simply keep temptations away! Who can resist a bag of cookies or a tub of ice cream seating in your freezer screaming ‘ Eat me!’ Thus go through the food in your house and thrash the junk (hmm.. no.. give it to the neighbours as a sign of goodwill) and of course, remember not to get even more fattening treats when you go grocery shopping.

Thus, besides keeping strictly to a weight loss diet plan for your square meals, do be on the alert even for what you drink and eat on the sidelines. Think twice before putting anything into your mouth, If in doubt, scan the labels. If the ingredients list leaves you with question marks, and the nutrition list scares you, thrash it as processed foods should be only be eaten in moderation. Unprocessed foods like fruits and vegetables are so important and still the best in any diet.

Weight Loss and Exercise - What Exercises Are The Best?

Weight loss and exercise. Yes, these share a positive relationship but exercise helps you to lose your love handles in more ways than one. Exercises can be divided into aerobic and anaerobic exercises. I shall expound on both so that you can be enlightened so that you can make informed choices on which exercises to embark to best aid your weight loss.

What are aerobic exercises? The latter hinges on you breaking into a sweat as you work at moderate intensity over a period of half to one hour. This works your heart and lungs, taking in more oxygen for you to cope with the exercise. The energy expended will come from your body fat and the fat burning process will continue a few hours after your workout. Thus, to some it up, weight loss and exercise is true because aerobic exercises burn fat directly. Suitable exercises are jogging, swimming or singles tennis. Team sports are not very ideal aerobic exercises since you inadvertently get periods of rest, allowing your heart rate to drop.

Anaerobic exercises on the other hand, allow you to take breaks in between due to the high amount of effort needed. You also may or may not break into a sweat. Think of doing repetitions in an air-conditioned gym and the time lapsed and the few minutes rest required between each set. For anaerobic exercises, you do not take need to take in as much oxygen. As a result, it is carbohydrates (not fat) that is burnt, but is also essential in any weight loss program. (This process requires a lengthy biological explanation which I will not elaborate on.) This may not seem in line with your equation of weight loss and exercise. However, you are burning fat, but indirectly. Due to the explosive nature of anaerobic exercises, it builds up your muscles, revving up your metabolic rate and burning fat even after your exercise!

From experience, weight resistance training is definitely more effective in weight loss than aerobic exercise. Hitting the gym regularly made me hungry every hour and I could indulge in all my favourite foods without gaining weight. Weight training gives you a higher metabolic rate 24hours of the day, Why? Muscles need to be ‘maintained’, and these ‘feed’ on fat. Thus, the reason why some people feel hungry all the time yet they do not gain weight.
On the other hand, the relationship between weight loss and exercise was less string for aerobic exercises,. I found out that my appetite shrunk when I switched to doing only aerobic exercises. As fat is burnt only during the workout and a awhile after. you have to exercise frequently and for longer periods to shed weight.

Knowing this, one should not run to the gym and start training like a ferocious animal. A improvement in fitness should be attained gradually to prevent injury. Slow and steady is the way to go for weight loss and exercise.

The Truth Behind Weight Loss Surgery

Some obese individuals can't lose weight no matter how strictly they follow a diet or how religiously they do an exercise routine. For these people, the only solution left is to undergo weight loss surgery. Weight loss surgery comes with many names. Some doctors refer to it as gastric banding, intestinal bypass surgery, or obesity surgery.

Weight loss surgery is recommended to people who are 80 to 100 pounds overweight. It is also the more preferred option for people who are suffering from diseases like diabetes or heart diseases but need to shed some pounds.

Weight loss surgery is characterized by the surgical restriction of a person's stomach and intestines in such a way the digestive processes are interrupted. Large portions of the small intestines or the stomach maybe removed. This procedure is commonly performed on patients who are suffering from stomach ulcer or cancer. During those times, doctors observed that most of their patients lose weight after their respective operation. Soon after, the procedure is adapted for obese people to help them lose weight.

Weight loss surgery is a type of surgery that restricts the person's stomach to hold food. When this happens, the whole process of food digestion is drastically slowed down. The person can eat as much as he or she used to, but the processing of food and nutrients to the body is delayed. As a result, fat accumulation is deferred.

However, there are certain cases wherein weight loss surgery causes unpredictable side effects that are sometimes harmful to the patient. This is why utmost care is necessary when operations similar to this are considered.

Weight loss surgery is known to improve almost all obesity-related problems. Its benefits can be observed continually 18 months up to 2 years after the operation. However, the patients who undergo this procedure are observed to vomit a lot. Much of it is because their stomach cannot carry the amount of food they eat. Other side effects include sweating, nausea, weakness, faintness, and diarrhea.

Studies also show that 20% patients who had undergone weight loss surgery go through a series of follow-up operations that aims to correct the complications arising from the first operation. Some patients develop gallstones. Gallstones are clusters of cholesterol forming in the patient's gallbladder. Nutritional deficiencies like osteoporosis, anemia, and bone diseases are also common to patients, as not all the necessary nutrients are obtained from the food they eat.

These are the ugly truths about weight loss surgery. However, with the help of a qualified physician, the side effects associated to with this weight loss procedure can be avoided. Just make sure that you submit only to the care of an experienced obesity doctor, who can closely monitor your condition and provide you with the necessary care.
